According to my survey, 2 of 5 people like to ride a bike, like mountain bike, bmx, and fixie. They usually ride they bike when they go to school or when car free day and night ride, car free day is on sunday, it serves to reduce air pollution. It was fun to ride a bike, you can do some tricks on the road and you can make a video while cycling with friends. Playing computer games cause addicted, so they can spent a million money to buy a voucher for a good character for the online games. They usually play computer games at home or in a internet cafes.

Public Transportation

What public transportation they usually use? 3 of 5 people like to use taxi. Taxi's have an air conditioner, that's the different between a taxi with a bus or motorcycles that people in indonesia called it 'ojek'. Taxi is more expensive than the other public transportation, but it comfortable. 1 of 5 people like to use ojek, and the last 1 of 5 people like to use bus. If you use bus, it will take much time to go, but its different when you use busway. Ojek is the fastest public transportation, because it can overtaking other transportation easily, but don't forget to use a helmet, so you don't inhaling pollution and for your safety.

Thank you again!!

Rizki Taufik M W

X-B

New E-mail! I sent this email from Melbourne, Australia.

Envy much? Don’t be, cause I’m going to tell you how’s my trip this time. This is my first day in Melbourne. So, I arrived this morning at Avalon International Airport and it’s really cold here. There isn’t any snow, but the weather is so cold. Thank God, I’ve prepared the winter clothes.

After I arrived, I travel along the Great Ocean Road. And I made a stop, cause I think it’s an interesting scene to see. It was so wonderful, you can see a beautiful scene of sea and beach. The water of the sea is so clear, and the sand is the most beautiful sand I’ve ever seen.

I think I fell in love with this Great Ocean Road, and suddenly funny thing happened. When I wanted to take a picture, I forgot to hold the camera tight. So it fell down and full of sand. Haha but it was a great experience for me, I think I’ll go to bed now. I’ll send another email tomorrow.

Good night,

Ellen MacArthur

(Nadhira Nur Aqila)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://whats-up-english.blogspot.com/2011/11/new-e-mail-1.html' title='New E-mail! It replaced with robot teacher that are likely to be even more intelligent that humans. They will teach to the human children at school about technology.

The technology advanced a lot in the last years, so always there will be a way to learn with teachers in a school or with robots in his house.

I don't really agree something can replace schools and teachers. Because at school you can ask specific questions to the teacher till you get what it means, work in groups, have a social life, make friends or even have fun. Yes we can learn some things in the Internet, but it can't replace schools. Schools feels our second home. Schools are more than sitting, studying and learning, schools are places where we go every day, we meet new people and places you remember until we grows old.

At the end, I want to say that a virtual school or a robot teacher will be really very useful inventions, but school, as well as an obligation, is the most important social activity that the children have. Its kind of a place where they find who they are. I prefer school and teachers. I’m gonna write a report based by an interview with my classmate. Music is one thing that can’t be separated from teens. Every teen like to hear music, but there’s many kinds of music. i asked 5 of my friends to interview them to get a report about a music on Indonesian teens. This is my interview results, all of the respondents prefer foreign music than local music. 2/5 of my friends like metal music, they’re listening A Day to Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, The Devil Wears Prada and many more. 2/5 of my friends like punk music, their idols are Blink 182, Rufio, Sum 41. 1/5 of my friends like pop music, he’s listen to Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Justin Bieber.

Sports

A sport is one of the most favorite activities in the world. Most of the teenagers prefer to do some sports than other activity. 5 friends that i've interviewed like sports they’re like to do a sports because it’s fun and healthy. 3/5 of my friends love soccer, because soccer is the most popular sport in the world and soccer is the most fun sport in their opinion. 2/5 of my friends like basketball because there are many tricks and movements in basketball like slam dunk and many movements. This report just a sample and not an absolute statistics about the Indonesian teens

M. I’ve already done a little research about this. I interviewed some of my friend at school and some others in my old school. I’ve done the interview by telephone and in person. Of course the question concerned teenage lifestyle, gadgets, and music.

Some of the teenagers love popularity kind of lifestyle, where they can do whatever they like, hanging out somewhere they want with their friends and come back home when they want it. But there's a lot too who wants a simple life, where they still hang with their friends but in a normal portion, to follow the rule, doing great in school, and to think about their future.

Almost all of my friends like to have a cool gadget or we can say the popular one. They like to buy gadgets with popular and famous brand such as Apple, Blackberry, HP, etc. Just a little of them who buys gadgets really based on what they need and what that gadget's ability. They prefer to buy smartphone, ipod, and notebook. These gadgets usually used to help them to work on their school project and fill their free time.

Nowadays most of all teenager already infected by western culture. If we scale it, eight from ten prefer to listen west music. A little of them like to listen east one like Korean or we can say K-pop or Korean Pop. But it is really rare to find the one who still prefer Indonesian music. I just found one person who still like to listen to traditional music, it was really hard to find. Most of them choose pop, R'n'b, or easy Jazz.

From what I see, kids these time had already change. They really like something that public says cool, they really following the trend. Well now generation are more smarter, but their way to think has changed. Their way to think now are more to west. The good side is that they know much about globalizations, but the negative side that their start to forgetting their own country. we do really need to educate and fix teens' way of think nowadays.

Raquel Dhita N

Indonesian teenagers' Interest in Food ( Final Draft )

Hello everyone!
today I'm going to talk about Food~ yumm! especially food that's Indonesian teenagers love these days.

Lets face it, who doesn't like food these days? Food is one of the most critical thing that's needed in people's life. Now, to 'investigate' the food that Indonesian teenagers love these days, i questioned a bunch of students of my class and ask them about their favourite food.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?

Most of the students answers to that question is pretty amusing because their answers are so vary. 2 out of 5 boys i interviewed love fried chickens, claiming that it's easy to find and very delicious. some of the boys also love pasta and chicken gordon bleu. The most 'Indonesian' i must say, chose gudeg as his favourite food.

The boys' favourite food is totally different from the girls.
2 out of 5 girls i interviewed love sushi! They said that sushi tastes so good and easy to eat. Some of the girls also said that pasta is their favourite food because pasta is vary in taste and shape but all the pastas tastes awesome.

DO YOU LIKE SNACKS? IF SO, WHAT KIND OF SNACKS DO YOU LIKE TO EAT?

Most of the boys and girls love snacks. They said that snacks is one of their ways to relieve stress and hunger before or after lunch/dinner. 3 out of 10 students love potato chips. because chips is the easiest thing to find and it's easy for them to eat it. Some of them love to eat cookies, twister, cassava chips, etc. However, there are 2 out of 10 students who doesn't like to eat snacks, because it makes them full before the real lunch or dinner is served.

In conclusion, there are not many people in my classroom who actually pick Indonesian food as their favourite. I'm not going to be a hypocrite by saying that my favourite food is an Indonesian food. I think Indonesian food is popular, but not really popular in the teenager's society because of the 'heaviness' and impracticability that it got. I also learned that most of the students in my classroom love easy and practical food. So i think, food suppliers, chefs, or food markets owner should make a good, ready-to-go and healthy food if they want to succeed in the food markets for Indonesian teenagers.

See you in the next post!

Tara Annisa (39; Group 1) XB

Will there still be schools and teachers in the future?

Back then, students get their knowledge from books or teachers at school. But now, as the era evolved, students find their knowledge easily without teachers at school. Now the question is, will there still be teachers and schools in the future? For me, I think there still will be.

Teachers and students are two components that cannot be separated. When students need to know something, the easiest way to know or learn is by go and ask their teachers. Teachers are also one of the most ‘interactive’ learning tools because teachers can respond to their students promptly.

In this era of globalization however, teachers’ positions are gradually replaced by the internet. Internet gives us students lots of advantages. When our teachers want us to know more about something, they will tell us to go to the internet. Sometimes, if we still can’t understand things that the teacher explained, students can just go online and look it up on the internet. The visuals in the internet are also good, and it makes students sometimes understand more. The best part is that students don’t get home works from the internet; internet helps students to solve the home works instead

For me, in the future, there will still be teachers and schools, but maybe in different conditions. Nowadays there are lots of online tutors, teachers and school. So I think, in the future, students won’t have to go to school, they can access their schools and meet their teachers online, which is more efficient that way.

Tara Annisa (39) XB Group 1

Will It Be Possible to Live Forever?

Live forever? I think that’s just something that we can saw on movies, drama etc. I don’t believe that a human can live forever like we seen on Twilight, but its very interesting topic to be discussed.

Some scientist believes that human can live forever; one of the scientists is Ray Kurzweil. He claims that immortality is a something we can get in first few decades of 21st century. The Scientist has developed a series of biomedical rejuvenation strategies to reverse human aging called SENS. But it’s far away from immortality, its only extend our lives not make us can live forever.

Maybe scientist could make something to makes our lives longer but scientist can’t touch immortality. From spiritual views, only god can live immortality. If human could live forever what is the different of god and human? If some human could live forever maybe they’ll use it for something bad. If we are the only one who can live forever, we must live to see everyone near us died and leave us one by one.

Only god can live forever, but we can make our lives longer by healthy lifestyle or scientist’s research. Somehow, the future will be like a rearrangement. Everything will be more instant, automatic, elegant, flying, and many more. That’s what everyone thought. But I don’t believe it will really happen.

In this case, what do you think the future will be? Will there still be schools and teachers? It’s true that there are inventors that invented new things to develop new life. They invented gadgets that we can use these days. Where did the inventors come from? That’s right, schools. And who taught them? Of course, teachers taught them. In schools, the teachers always give the students the process. No instant learning, even if they use e-book or another way to learn.

What I’m trying to say is, if the development of our life is from the inventors. And the inventors are from schools and taught by the teachers, will there be any development in our life, if there are no schools and teachers? There will always be development in our life if we don’t stop learning and go through the process. And there will be the result of learning, that’s development.

To conclude, I think the future still need schools and teachers in it. Because, there won’t be any new inventions if there’s no school and teacher. And there won’t be any development in our life, if everything is instant with no process.

Nadhira Nur Aqila
XB/27

Education or Lifestyle? (II)

Hello, blog!
This is the revision of my previous post.

I had an assignment to share some information in report form. The aim of this report is to explain the point of view of my friends in my school about some topics. I've chosen 2 topics. As you can read on the title, the topics are education and lifestyle.
I know that my title is a little bit confusing. But, the reason I wrote that is because I’m curious about how much my friends care about both topics.

EDUCATION
I interviewed 5 of my friends. 4 of them said that the educational system in Indonesia is doing better from year to year. Because Indonesia‘s achievement in academic is increasing from year to year. But, 1 of them said that there's something that needed to be fixed.
Even they said that the educational system is doing better, but still three-fifth of my friends is more interested in study abroad than studying here in Indonesia. And also all of my friends are giving some advice to improve Indonesia's educational system.
The advices are:
-Giving a free school for unlucky people
-Keeping up the motivation
-Building schools in isolated area
-Equal concern for all schools
-Improve the educational system

LIFESTYLE
After I asked them about education, I also asked them about lifestyle. It's about shopping. 4 of them like shopping, but they shop for some reasons. 2 of my friends said that they shop if they want something, 2 of my friends said if they have much money, and 1 of my friend said if she has much time. They spent money depends on what they buy.

So, education is no less important than lifestyle. That’s why 5 of my friends answered my questions clearly :)

Nadhira Nur Aqila
XB/27

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://whats-up-english.blogspot.com/2011/08/education-or-lifestyle-ii.html' title='Education or Lifestyle? According to my survey, 2 of 5 people like to ride a bike, like mountain bike, bmx, and fixie. They usually ride they bike when they go to school or when car free day and night ride, car free day is on sunday, it serves to reduce air pollution. And the others or 3 of 5 people are like to playing computer games, online games or offline games. They like to spent money to buy a voucher for the online games. They usually play computer games at home or in a internet cafes.

Public Transportation

What public transportation they usually use? 3 of 5 people like to use taxi. Taxi's have an air conditioner, not like bus or motorcycles that people in indonesia called it 'ojek'.

Thank You!!

Rizki Taufik M (35)
X-B

Indonesian Teens

Music

This time I’m gonna write a report about what is popular with Indonesian teens. Food is one of the most critical thing that's needed in people's life. Now, in order to 'investigate' the food that indonesian teenagers love these days, i questioned a bunch of students of my class and ask them about their favourite food.

The boys' favourite food is totally different than the girls.
2 out of 5 girls i interviewed love sushi! They said that sushi tastes soo good and also easy to eat. Some of the girls also said that pasta is their favourite food because pasta is vary in taste and shape but all of the pastas tastes awesome.

However, there are 2 out of 10 students who doesn't like to eat snacks, because it makes them full before the actual lunch or dinner is served.

In conclusion, there are not many people in my classroom who actually pick indonesian food as their favourite. I'm not going to be a hypocrite by saying that my favourite food is an indonesian food. I think indonesian food is popular, but not really popular in the teenager's society because of the 'heaviness' and impracticality that it got. I also learned that most of the students in my classroom love easy and practical food. So i think, food suppliers, chefs, or food markets owner should make a good, ready-to-go and healthy food if they want to succeed in the food markets for Indonesian teenagers.

See you in the next post!

Tara Annisa (39)
Class: X B

Education or Lifestyle?

Hello, blog!
I had an assignment to share some information in report text. And also all of my friends are giving some advice to improve Indonesia's educational system.
The advices are:
-Giving a free school for unlucky people
-Keeping up the motivation
-Building schools in isolated area
-More concern in every school
-Improve the system

LIFESTYLE
After I asked them about education, I also asked them about lifestyle. It's about shopping. 80% of them like shopping, but they shop for some reasons. 2 of my friends said that they shop if they want something, 2 of my friends said if they have much money, and 1 of my friend said if she has much time. They spent money depends on what they buy.

So, education or lifestyle? Both is better. :)

Nadhira Nur Aqila
XB/27

TEENS' WAY OF THINKING

This report is about to present teens’ way of think around things such as lifestyle, gadgets, and music.

They like to buy the one with popular brand such as Apple, Blackberry, HP, etc. Just a little of it who buys gadgets really based on what they need and what that's gadgets ability.

Raquel Dhita N.G

X-B / 32
